Restore Your Smile

Your smile can be fixed with dental crowns and bridges at Todd Denson DMD PA. Wondering if this procedure is right for you?

Crowns can protect a tooth and can also be used to create bridges to replace missing teeth. It is a cap that surrounds the tooth. Dr. Denson will typically use a crown to restore a damage by disease, an accident or root canal, but you can also use it to improve the appearance of your smile.

A crown can consist of three different materials, all-metal, ceramic-on-metal and all-ceramic. The location of the crown in your will determine the best material to use.

For example, front teeth need to have an all-ceramic crown, if possible, since it looks the most natural. Patients may often use ceramic-on-metal crowns since they look natural but have the durability that only metal can provide.

Bridge the Gap Created by One or More Missing Teeth

What exactly is a dental bridge? It's a way to replace a missing tooth. If you need to replace a tooth without wearing dentures or undergoing surgery, this procedure may be of interest to you.

Made ceramic or porcelain material to match the surrounding teeth, the end result looks natural and consistent with the rest of your teeth.

What You Need to Know Before the Procedure

If you are considering a dental bridge, we recommend that you whiten your teeth first. At Todd Denson DMD PA, we offer teeth whitening procedures that can improve the appearance of your smile quickly and easily.

The material that crowns and bridges are made out of are both stain and bleach resistant and is created to match off-white teeth, it will remain that color even if you have your teeth whitened at a later date. Your new crown or bridge will be made to match your white teeth.

We are here to help you prepare for your procedure. Give us a call for any concerns.

The Process

The process for both crown and bridge procedures are similar. Dr. Denson makes an impression of your teeth so that the crown or bridge can be created. He then removes a portion of the tooth's enamel so that there is room for the new crown to surround the tooth without pushing other teeth alignment.

Our patients typically wear a temporary crown for around two weeks while waiting for a permanent one to be created in our lab. We urge you that it is important to be careful with what you eat and how you brush your teeth since the temporary is designed to eventually come off.

When your crown is ready, we will secure the cap around the tooth and complete it through dental bonding. As for a bridge, a crown is placed on the two teeth that are surrounding the missing one. Atop of the crown is a piece that looks like natural gums that will hold the new tooth in place.

These two crowns serve as anchors for this synthetic “bridge” and secure the new tooth. Patients depend on this procedure as a way to replace missing teeth in a way that looks natural.

After-Procedure Care

After any tooth restoration procedure, you can expect tooth and gum sensitivity. We use sedation dentistry to ensure that you will not experience any discomfort. You also may have to take oral pain medication for a couple of days until you feel better.
